Weather Warning
Precipitation and electrical activity this Sunday
13 de setiembre de 2020
10:30 a.m.
Diagnosis: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, added to disturbances in the upper atmosphere, are generating considerable instability in the atmosphere, which together will generate rainfall and electrical activity in the country.
Forecast: During this afternoon, downpours with an electrical storm are expected in the Pacific Slope and North Zone, in addition to the Central Valley and Caribbean regions, rains of variable intensity are anticipated with the probability that there will be electrical activity of a more localized nature than in The rest of the regions are estimated to be accumulated between 20-70 mm, possibly higher amounts locally.
It is estimated that rainfall will extend to the first hours of the night in the Central Valley with accumulated between 10-30mm, possible higher amounts in a localized way, they are also expected for the Pacific slope, (especially in the Nicoya Peninsula and Peninsula de Osa), mountains of the Caribbean and Northern Zone regions, accumulated between 10-50 mm.
Warning: High levels of soil saturation prevail in the North Zone, northwest of the Central Valley, the Nicoya Peninsula and the South Pacific; therefore, particular attention is recommended.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
