Weather Warning

Rainfall in the country this Sunday

April 12, 2020
11.15 am

Diagnosis: The high temperatures registered this morning and the entrance of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, as well as the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone are generating humidity entrance to the country today, rains have occurred on the Central Pacific coast this morning, as well as downpours in the North Caribbean and North Zone at the end of it.

Forecast: For this afternoon and during the night inclusive, it is estimated that the rainy and electrical activity will occur in the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 15-60 mm are expected in periods of 12 hours. In addition, downpours to mountainous areas and the vicinity of the Northern Zone are possible throughout the day, with amounts between 10-30 mm.

In the Central Valley the presence of isolated precipitations this afternoon is not ruled out, which could also present an electrical storm, accumulated between 5-25 mm. In the case of the North Pacific, this region will be maintained with scattered showers at the level of the Nicoya peninsula and in the mountains, with amounts between 5-35 mm. The Caribbean is anticipated with partly cloudy skies, there could be isolated rains in the mountains.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation, especially in South Pacific regions due to the rains of the last hours.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
