Tropical Wave #6

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 6 is over Panama, it is expected to enter Costa Rican territory at the end of this afternoon and early evening. Furthermore, the position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in the region increases atmospheric instability over the country.

Forecast: During this afternoon and night rainy activity of variable intensity is projected on various points of the national territory. For the North Zone and the North Pacific, downpours and isolated storms are anticipated for this period, the most intense activity is anticipated for the mountainous and nearby areas. Isolated rains with localized storm are expected in the Central Valley, with the heaviest rainfall for the western and northern parts. In the rest of the country, rains and downpours with a possible electrical storm are expected for the mountainous and nearby parts.

Warning: Special attention in the regions of the North Pacific and North Zone, as well as the mountainous areas of the country, this due to the persistence of the rains of the last days that keep the basins saturated, a situation that increases the risk of incidents such as landslides, overflow of rivers, etc. …

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

•     Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
•     Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
•     Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
