Weather Warning
Central American Gyre continue the influence this Friday
June 28, 2024
10:00 a.m.
Diagnosis: This Friday a predominance of humidity flow from the Pacific Ocean to the national territory continues, this due to the development of a Central American Gyre in the region. During the early morning, variable rains occurred, including heavy downpours in the Central Valley, Pacific regions and the Northern Zone. At this time of the morning there are mostly cloudy skies over most of the country, as well as scattered weak rains in the North Pacific.
Forecast: For the remainder of this day, the influence of the Central American Tour on the country will be maintained. For the afternoon and evening, cloudy skies are expected to predominate over most of the national territory. The majority of rainfall is expected to be of weak to moderate intensity, intermittent in the North Pacific and occasional for the rest of the country. Estimated amounts between 15 - 45 mm.
However, the interaction of the humid flow from the west induced by the Central American Gyre can generate cloud cores of greater vertical development when interacting with the orography, so the probability of strong downpours located in mountainous sectors and surrounding areas remains for this afternoon throughout the country (higher probability in the Guanacaste and Tilarán mountain ranges). Estimated maximum amounts between 50 - 80 mm. According to the analyzes the country would be out of the influence of the Central American Tour for tomorrow, Saturday.
Warning: Saturated soils are recorded in the South Pacific and North Pacific (special attention in both peninsulas), mountains in the Northern Zone adjacent to the Central Valley and those of the Guanacaste mountain range. All regions vulnerable to landslides and possible flooding.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewage saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
