Weather Warning

Local variable rainfall during this afternoon and evening

June 24, 2024
11.20 a.m.

Discussion: Local factors such as sea breezes, surface moisture contributions and warm temperatures will favor variable rainfall during this afternoon in mountainous areas of the Pacific slope and parts of the Central Valley.

Forecast: This afternoon, localized showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in areas of the east and south of the Central Valley, over the mountains of the Central and South Pacific, and in mountainous areas to the south of the North Zone. The estimated accumulated amounts would be between 25 - 50 mm with maximum amounts of 70 mm. In the case of the Northern Pacific, this type of precipitation is expected towards the end of the afternoon and early evening with amounts between 20 - 60 mm. For the Caribbean regions, showers are expected over the mountains, with amounts between 10 - 40 mm.

For Tuesday, the passage of tropical wave #12 is expected, with the probability of reinforcing the precipitation on the Pacific slope and Central Valley in the evening and nighttime periods.

Warning: Saturated soils are monitored in the mountains of the South Pacific, low areas near the Central Pacific and South Pacific coasts, the mountains of the North Zone bordering the Central Valley, as well as both peninsulas. All regions are vulnerable to landslides and possible flooding.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
  • Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
