Weather Warning
Heavy rains this morning in the Caribbean and during the afternoon in the Pacific
June 24, 2020
10.40 a.m.
Discussion: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone generates the proximity of cloud nuclei to the coastal parts of our country, particularly to the province of Limón where isolated but strong downpours occur accompanied by an electrical storm.
Forecast: In the rest of the morning, downpours and thunderstorms will continue in the Northern Zone and the Caribbean, amounts between 25-50 mm are estimated, the rains tend to decrease in the afternoon in these regions.
In the evening period and the first hours of the night, the strongest rainy and electrical activity will be concentrated in the Central and South Pacific and even the Nicoya Peninsula, accumulated between 30-60 mm.
For its part, scattered rains are possible in the Central Valley, especially in mountainous sectors, amounts between 10-20 mm.
Warning: Special attention in the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions as they show saturation levels due to the rains of the last days.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
- Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
- Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
