Meteorological warning

Condiciones ventosas durante este miércoles

12 de febrero 2020.
9:40 am

Diagnosis: The atmospheric pressure continues strong on the Caribbean Sea and as a result the wind stays accelerated on the Central American region. During the early morning and morning of Wednesday there have been strong gusts in the range of 40-60 km / h in the lower parts of Guanacaste and the west of the Central Valley and between 70-81 km / h in the mountainous areas and the north from Guanacaste.

Forecast: For the remainder of this Wednesday, strong gusts will continue with ranges estimated between 40-60 km / h in the Central Valley and between 45-65 km / h in the lower parts of Guanacaste. In mountainous areas they can reach between 75-95 km / h.

On the other hand, mostly cloudy conditions are expected throughout the day for the North Zone and the Caribbean, in addition to isolated rains with estimated amounts between 5-15 mm. For the Central Valley there will be variable cloudiness between partial and mostly cloudy with possible drizzles in mountainous sectors and its surroundings, the amounts are estimated between 1-5 mm. For the Pacific regions there will be little cloudiness with the possibility of drizzles in the mountains.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •     Extreme precautions due to strong winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
  •     Caution for boats by choppy sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, Central Pacific and the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
  •     Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
  •     Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: CR National Meteorological Institute and the Website: www.imn.ac.cr
