Weather Warning

Weak tropical wave #39 to cross Costa Rica this Saturday and will reinforce the rains for that day.

11 de octubre de 2024
5.00 p.m.

Diagnosis: In the early hours of this Saturday, a weak tropical wave (OT#39) will be crossing Costa Rica and will be interacting with the Intertropical Convergence Zone also located over the country, favoring an unstable atmospheric environment during the course of the day.

Forecast: In general, it forecasts total to partial variable cloudiness over the national territory from early in the day and possible rains near the Pacific coast in the early morning. In the afternoon, isolated showers are expected along the Pacific slope and the plains of both the Caribbean and the Northern Zone; in the Central Valley, the rains will be scattered in the surroundings of the GAM.

Warning: Conditions of very saturated soils are maintained in the mountain ranges of the national territory, and low parts of the South Pacific and the Northern Zone. This situation indicates risk of incidents due to sewer saturation, river flooding or landslides in areas where rainfall is expected to occur during this day.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

- Caution for sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
- Prevention before thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
