Weather Warning

Tropical wave #4 in the country

June 09, 2020
10.40 am

Diagnosis: Today, tropical wave # 4 is crossing Costa Rica since morning, which has generated rains and storms in Osa and nearby. In addition, we have the Intertropical Convergence Zone located in the Pacific and thus maintaining instability and the contribution of moisture in our territory.

Forecast: This afternoon the tropical wave is expected to continue moving westward, entering the Pacific Ocean at night. Given this, showers and storms of varying intensity are expected this afternoon and early evening in the Pacific Slope, being the most intense around the Tempisque Valley (North Pacific) and the Coto Brus Valley (Pacific South), amounts between 40-75 mm are expected in periods of 6 hours. In the Central Valley, mountains of the North Zone and the Caribbean there will be isolated showers with storms and rains in the early hours of the night, amounts between 20-50 mm.

Warning: Special attention in the Tempisque Valley, mountains of the North Zone and South Pacific, especially due to the heavy rains that these regions have had in recent days, as well as on the coast of Guanacaste, Parrita, Quepos and Uvita.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
