Strong windy conditions during today and the weekend

Discussion: Cold surge # 22 is in the Gulf of Mexico, close to entering North Central America. Associated with its passage, it is increasing atmospheric pressure levels in the region causing accelerated winds over the country. In recent hours there have been gusts of up to 78 km/h in La Cruz de Guanacaste; in the lower parts of the North Pacific and Central Valley they are around 40-65 km/h.
Forecast: The cold surge is expected to continue advancing towards the Central American region, its incursion in Costa Rica is estimated between Saturday night and Sunday. Its main effect towards the country will be the gradual increase of the windy pattern. On Friday, gusts between 50-70 km/h are anticipated in the lower parts of the Central Valley and North Pacific, in maximum mountainous sectors between 70-95 km / h. On Saturday and Sunday, the most intense gusts will be perceived, maximum speeds are estimated between 50-75 km/h in the Central Valley and between 65-100 km/h in the North Pacific, the gusts can exceed 100 km/h in the North of this region.
Due to a significant decrease in the humidity contained in the atmosphere, the possibility of precipitation is extremely low during this Friday, of manifesting it will be towards the mountainous parts in the form of drizzles. However, it is estimated an increase in cloud cover and the possibility of rains during Saturday and Sunday in the Caribbean and North Zone regions, amounts between 10-30 mm are expected; While in the rest of the country no relevant changes in weather conditions are expected, the possibility of drizzles is limited to the mountainous sectors of the north east of GAM and the north of Guanacaste with accumulated less than 5 mm.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Extreme precautions due to strong winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
- Caution for boats by choppy sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
- Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
