Informative Meteorological Notice
Tropical Depression 2 formed in the Atlantic Ocean
June 28, 2024
5:35 p.m.
Diagnosis: On Friday afternoon, tropical wave n°16 evolved into Tropical Depression 2 (DT 2). According to the NHC, this cyclone will be strengthening into a tropical storm in the next few hours and its most likely path in the next three days is towards the east/northeast, heading towards the Lesser Antilles.
Forecast: According to current numerical modeling and analysis, DT 2 will continue to move towards the Caribbean Sea and could evolve into a Category 1 hurricane early next week. In addition, it is estimated that the system will enter the Central American region in a period of 120 to 144 hours (approximately 5 to 6 days).
The IMN maintains strict surveillance without interruption and will be immediately updated on the possible effects in Costa Rica.
Warning: High uncertainty remains regarding the possibility of impact in the country. However, saturated soils are currently registered in the South Pacific and North Pacific (special attention to both peninsulas), mountains in the Northern Zone bordering the Central Valley and the Guanacaste mountain range. All regions are vulnerable to landslides and possible floods.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution due to sewer saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country due to the possibility of strong rainy events.
- Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of occurrence or perception of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
