Weather Warning (Update)

Isolated showers in some areas of the country in the late afternoon.

Diagnosis: The position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the country together with atmospheric instability have generated variable rainfall in the country since the morning. Up to this hour, rainfall amounts of 70 mm have been registered in the North Zone (Upala) and the North Pacific (Liberia), between 20 mm and 30 mm in the Central Valley, while in the rest of the country the amounts are between 5 mm and 15 mm.

Forecast: Rainfall will continue in scattered distribution in the Central Valley, Central Pacific, North Pacific and Northern Zone; as well as occasional showers in the mountains of the South Pacific. Maximum amounts between 10 mm and 30 mm are estimated for the next 6 hours.

Rainfall in both regions may extend to the Pacific coastal sector in the early evening.

Warning: Special attention should be paid to the mountainous sectors of the North Pacific and Northern Zone, as well as the South Pacific, due to the fact that the basins have saturation levels between 80% and 90%. Therefore, these sectors are vulnerable to the occurrence of floods and landslides.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• - Caution for sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
• - Prevent thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
