Weather Warning
Isolated showers with thunderstorms in the mountains of the Caribbean and parts of the Northern Zone
June 16, 2024
2:45 p.m.
Diagnosis: The displacement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone to the north of the region, maintains the westerly flow on the Pacific slope with the occurrence of scattered showers in the afternoon on said slope. Specifically in sectors to the northwest of the coastal North Pacific, next to the mountains of the South Pacific. The accumulated amounts so far register values below 30 mm. The Caribbean slope maintains warm temperatures, contributions of humidity from the sea breezes and cloudy developments over the mountains
Forecast: For the rest of the afternoon and early hours of the night, scattered showers and downpours will continue in mountainous sectors of the South and Central Pacific, next to coastal parts and the center of the North Pacific. The accumulated amounts would be between 10 - 30 mm with maximums of 60 mm.
In the case of the mountains of the Caribbean and surrounding low areas, next to sectors of the center and east of the North Zone, the presence of isolated showers accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast. The estimated accumulations would be between 15 - 45 mm with maximum points of 70 mm.
Tropical wave #10 moves its instability towards the north of Central America so it will not affect the country.
Warning: The rains forecast in the coastal sector of the Pacific and low areas will be in recurrent sectors of the last days. Possibility of landslides in saturated soils of the mountains of the South Pacific, Central Pacific and western North Caribbean.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to saturation of sewers in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of occurrence or perception of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB page:www.imn.ac.cr
