Weather Warning
Trade winds in the west side of Caribbean Sea and Intertopical Convergence Zone over the country this afternoon
July 21, 2024
09:45 a.m.
Diagnosis: The presence of accelerated trade winds in the west of the Caribbean Sea basin is perceived in northern sectors of the country, which favors the drag of humidity with the presence of localized showers accompanied by thunderstorms. The accumulated amounts in the last 6 hours are 10 - 60 mm (Cutris de San Carlos and Sarapiquí de Heredia).
Forecast: The formation of localized showers on the Caribbean slope and the Northern Zone will continue for the rest of the morning. The estimated punctual amounts would be between 10 - 50 mm with maximums of 75 mm.
In the afternoon, the Convergence Zone would be over the center of the country, favoring scattered showers with thunderstorms in mountainous sectors and locally in low parts of the Central Pacific and South Pacific. The estimated amounts would be between 20-40 mm with maximums of 65 mm.
For the night period and early Monday morning, rain will again appear on the coasts of the South Caribbean, towards the center and north of the North Caribbean and the North Zone.
Warning: Despite having less instability compared to later days, the rains can be of strong intensity in a localized manner and over recurrent sectors.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of occurrence or perception of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
