Weather Warning

Afternoon with rainfall of varying intensity

June 16,2020
11:15am

Diagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone is active and close to the country, in addition to this local factors such as high temperatures and the ingress of humidity from maritime sectors generate favorable conditions for the occurrence of precipitation during this afternoon and part of the night in several areas of the country.

Forecast: During this afternoon and early evening, rains and showers are anticipated for the Pacific slope, the Central Valley and the North Zone. The most intense activity is foreseen for mountainous areas and their surroundings.

On the other hand, isolated rains are expected in the Caribbean regions with possible downpours in the mountainous areas and nearby, while for the coastal parts no significant rainfall is projected.

Warning: The rains of the last days maintain humidity levels in the soils quite high in part of the national territory, particular attention for the Guanacaste region and the Northern Zone due to the probability of incidents such as landslides, flash floods, water heads, etc.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •    Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  •     Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
  •     Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEBSITE: www.imn.ac.cr
