Weather Report #8

Tropical Storm Gamma maintains indirect impact in the country during the night period

October 04, 2020
3:00 am

Diagnosis: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently locating Tropical Storm Gamma, about 160 km west-northwest of the city of Cancun, Mexico. It is moving northwest with a speed of 13 km / h, specifically towards the Gulf of Mexico.

This system maintains an indirect impact on Costa Rica, causing a flow of humidity from the Pacific Ocean to our country, mainly affecting the North Pacific and northern parts of the Central Pacific.

The maximum accumulated recorded at this time have been presented mainly in the regions of: North Pacific (35 mm), North Zone (30 mm), Central Pacific (20 mm) and Central Valley (under 15 mm).

Forecast: During the early morning and early hours of the day, rains of variable intensity will persist in the North Pacific, with estimated amounts between 10-30 mm in periods of 6 to 12 hours. In addition, in the Central and South Pacific rains and drizzles are expected, particularly in the mountainous sectors. The maximum accumulated are estimated around 15 mm.
For the Central Valley (mainly towards the west and north) rains and drizzles are expected with amounts that do not exceed 15 mm in periods of 6 to 12 hours.

Warning: Special attention in all regions of the Pacific (particularly the Guanacaste area), the North area, the upper parts of the Caribbean and the Central Valley (especially the west area), since due to the rains of the last days the soils remain saturated, a condition that increases the risk of incidents

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Caution on the main national highways due to reduced visibility.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr

The next report will be issued at 9:00 am.
