Weather Warning
Rains of variable intensity during this afternoon and early evening
December 31, 2024
11.30 a.m.
Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains close to the country, along with instability in the upper atmosphere, these are factors that increase the high probability of rain and showers with thunderstorms during this afternoon and early evening, especially in the Central and South Pacific.
In the early morning, cloudy nuclei near the Pacific coasts favored scattered rains in these areas, with amounts less than 10 mm.
Forecast: For this afternoon and early evening, rains of varying intensity and isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected in the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 30-60 mm, with localized accumulations possible. Meanwhile, in the Central Valley, Nicoya Peninsula, Northern Zone and Caribbean mountains, isolated rains and showers with accumulations between 10-40 mm are possible.
Warning: Special attention in the Northern Zone, Northern Caribbean, Southern Pacific and Nicoya Peninsula due to high levels of saturation (80% and 90%). Therefore, these are areas vulnerable to the occurrence of floods and landslides.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
- Prevention against thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place if strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
