Weather Warning
Rainy conditions this day
November 29, 2023
7.15 am
Diagnosis: The presence of a cold surge to the north of the Caribbean Sea has maintained high values of atmospheric pressure in Central America since this Monday, which is favoring windy conditions in the country. The increase in humidity over this maritime sector, combined with the flow of strong winds, is activating precipitation in the Caribbean and other surrounding regions such as the Central Valley and the North Zone since this morning. The amounts recorded since midnight vary between 10 and 40 mm. , the largest in the coastal Caribbean.
Forecast: It is estimated that moderate to strong winds will continue in the north, center of the national territory and mountainous sectors. Specifically for the Central Valley, maximum gusts are expected with speeds between 40 - 65 km/h, while, in the North Pacific and mountainous sectors, maximum speeds will range between 65 - 95 km/h. As for rainfall, it will continue to be present today, Wednesday, in the Caribbean and Northern regions in a variable manner. The amounts accumulated in 24 hours would be between 25-60 mm with specific maximums of 100 mm.
The above will be manifested to a lesser extent with occasional variable rains in the Central Valley and Northern Zone. Likewise, there will be occasional drizzles in the mountains of the Central and South Pacific. The North Pacific will have scattered rain events in the mountains and in the south of the peninsula. Warning: Special attention due to strong gusts of wind in the mountainous sectors and north of the North Pacific. Likewise, pay attention in the Caribbean to localized downpours in sectors with saturated soils.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes). • Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and northern Central Pacific. • Avoid burning of all types, as they can get out of control. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
