Aviso Meteorológico

Rainy conditions in the Caribbean and North Zone this Tuesday

November 26, 2024
09.30 a.m.

Discussion: The entry of humidity from the Caribbean Sea into the national territory, favored by moderate trade winds, generates cloudiness and rain in the Caribbean and Northern Zone, extending in turn towards the Central Valley and mountainous areas. This has caused accumulations between 5-30 mm in the last 6 hours.

Forecast: Constant rains of varying intensity will prevail throughout the day in the Caribbean and the Northern Zone, with an estimated accumulation of 20-50 mm in 6-12 hour periods. Rainfall will occasionally be projected towards the Central Valley (especially in the north and east) and the mountain ranges, with amounts between 5-20 mm in 6-12 hour periods.

Meanwhile, in the Central Pacific and South Pacific, isolated showers and possible localized storms are expected. Estimated ranges are between 10 mm and 45 mm in 6-12 hour periods.

Trade winds will remain today with speeds between 30-60 km/h in the North Pacific, high parts of the Central Valley and the mountain ranges.

Warning: Pay special attention to mountainous areas of the Caribbean, Northern Zone and South Pacific because the basins have saturation levels between 80% and 90%. Therefore, these are vulnerable sectors to the occurrence of floods and landslides.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Be careful due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
  • Prevention against electrical storms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
