Weather Warning
Tropical Wave #27 crossing Costa Rica this Monday
August 26, 2024
12 m.
Diagnosis: Tropical wave #27 is crossing the national territory and will reinforce the atmospheric instability generated by local atmospheric conditions such as high temperatures and high humidity; which will favor the generation of precipitation this Monday.
Forecast: During the afternoon, isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected in the national territory.
On the Pacific coast -from the Nicoya Peninsula to the Southern Zone- amounts between 30 mm and 60 mm are estimated, with maximum amounts of up to 75 mm occasionally in the Central Pacific.
Part of these rains would reach the west and mountains of the Northern Zone, where 20 mm to 40 mm are expected on a punctual basis. For the rest of the country, no significant rainfall is expected.
Rains will continue during the night, particularly in the Central Pacific coast and south of the Nicoya Peninsula.
Warning: Soil saturation remains high in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula. In addition, in urban areas, sewer saturation can cause localized flash flooding. This increases vulnerability in these sectors.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution for sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
- Prevention before thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
