Aviso Meteorológico

Tropical storm Zeta forms in the Caribbean Sea north of Honduras

October 25, 2020
08.30 am

Diagnosis: in the last hours a low pressure system has strengthened in the tropical storm Zeta, which is located north of Honduras and about 400 km from Cozumel, Yucatán. This system has favored the Intertropical Convergence Zone to be located over Nicaragua, however, it maintains indirect influence over Costa Rica, favoring an indirect flow of winds from the west throughout the national territory.

Forecast: In the afternoon and evening there will be rains and downpours with storms in the Pacific, North Zone and Central Valley, in a more isolated way in the mountains of the Caribbean there will be rainfall, it is expected that the strongest rainy activity will be present in the north of the country, particularly in the northern zone, northern Caribbean and Guanacaste. There will be amounts of rainfall between 15-70 mm in the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 10-40 m in the Central Valley, and between 15-120 mm in the North Pacific, North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean.

Warning: Special attention due to the high percentage of saturation of soils in the South Pacific and North Zone. As well as the possibility of flash floods due to sewer saturation.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
