Weather Warning

Rains spread to the night hours by tropical wave effects # 11

June 23, 2020
06.10 p.m.

Discussion: The tropical wave continues to advance over the national territory, this afternoon has generated strong rainy and electrical activity in sectors of the Pacific and isolated precipitations in the North Zone and Central Valley. The highest accumulations are recorded in the Central Pacific with maxima between 50-77 mm.

Forecast: The effects of the tropical wave will continue during the night hours, therefore, showers and showers with an electrical storm are expected towards coastal areas of the Central and South Pacific, as well as in the Nicoya Peninsula, accumulated between 40-60 mm . Scattered rains are possible in the Central Valley and North Zone, mainly in mountainous sectors, amounts between 10-20 mm.

It is estimated that tropical wave # 11 is outside the national territory on Wednesday morning; without effect on the country from that period.

Warning: Special attention in the regions of both the Central Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula due to heavy rains in the last hours both the Central and South Pacific in the afternoon, and the North Caribbean at night.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
