Rain of varying intensity this afternoon and evening

Weather Warning (Update)

Lluvias de variable intensidad para esta tarde y noche

November 21, 2023
5.00 pm

Diagnosis: Local factors such as morning warming, high humidity content and entry of sea breeze generate an unstable atmospheric pattern in our country, favoring ideal conditions for the occurrence of rainfall of varying intensity this afternoon and night.

This afternoon, downpours with storms of varying intensity have been identified in the North Zone and North Pacific, the main ones in Orotina with accumulations of up to 60 mm in just 1 hour. In the Northern Zone the amounts vary between 15 to 23 mm in San Carlos and Pital. Additionally, 23 mm in Coto 47 in the South Pacific.

Forecast: For the remainder of the afternoon, variable intensity rains and occasional heavy downpours with thunderstorms continue in the North Zone, Puntarenas and Paquera, as well as in the mountain range with Panama between Laurel and San Vito. Estimated accumulations between 25-50 mm, maximums between 60-80 mm in periods of 3 hours. This rainy activity will extend into the night hours, gradually decreasing in the early hours. Warning: Soil saturation continues with high percentages in the North Zone, North Caribbean and South Pacific, take extreme preventive measures.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events. • Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
