Weather Warning

Showers and thunderstorms in the North and Central Pacific

October 20, 2020
1:30 am

Diagnosis: The instability present in the atmosphere, as well as the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone have favored the rains with downpours and an electrical storm located in the coastal sectors of the Pacific Slope. The maximum amounts at this time have been in the North Pacific (Nosara) with 30mm and Central Pacific (Quepos) with 40mm.

Forecast: The remainder of the early morning and early hours of the morning are expected to continue downpours over the coastal sectors of the Pacific, mainly in the North and Central Pacific, where there could even be a localized electrical storm. Amounts of around 15-40 mm are expected in 6-hour periods.

In the Caribbean and the Northern Zone, on the other hand, there could be weak to moderate rainfall in the upper parts and border sectors, with amounts of 5-15mm in periods of 6 hours.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Attention on the main national highways, such as Route 27 and Route 32.
