Weather Warning

Affection by Tropical Wave # 46 this Monday -Update-

October 19, 20
03.00 p.m.

Discussion: The tropical wave is transiting over our country this day, during its passage it has contributed to increasing atmospheric instability over our territory. This situation, together with the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, has generated heavy downpours in various parts of the Pacific (maximum points of 110 mm in Liberia and 40 mm in Osa) and the Central Valley (maximum between 15-25 mm).

Forecast: For the remainder of this afternoon and early evening, rainy conditions will continue on the Pacific slope, especially in the central area of Guanacaste, the high areas of the Central and South Pacific, as well as the surroundings of the border with Panama. Heavy downpours with storm are expected for these regions, accumulated estimated between 20-60 mm. In the Central Valley (mainly in the western and northern areas, in addition to the high parts) and the mountains of the Caribbean and the North Zone, isolated rains are expected with occasional showers and storms. Estimated accumulations between 15-40 mm

Warning: Special attention for possible incidents due to saturation of the soils in the South Pacific in the upper parts of the North Zone and the Central Pacific.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
