Weather Warning
Local factors will cause rains this afternoon in Costa Rica
17 de junio del 2020
10.30 a.m.
Diagnosis: Local atmospheric factors and characteristics of the rainy season, such as evaporation and the warm temperatures in the morning, will generate heavy rainfall with an electrical storm this afternoon in the national territory.
Forecast: This afternoon the most intense rains are concentrated in the mountainous sectors of the country and the Central Valley, amounts between 20-30 mm and maximums of up to 50 mm are estimated, mainly north of the GAM and mountainous sectors of the Northern Zone and the Zone of the saints.
In addition, scattered showers with an electrical storm are expected in the plains of the Northern Zone, the northern North Pacific and the South Pacific, with amounts between 15-25 mm and maximums of 40 mm.
In the Caribbean regions, the rains are concentrated in the mountains, with amounts between 10-20m, and which can extend until the early hours of the night, mainly on the coast of Limón.
Warnings: attention for places near the mountainous sector north of the Central Valley, in the Cordillera de Guanacaste and Tilarán; in addition to plains of the North Zone, Zone of the Saints and in the Peninsula of Osa.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
