Weather Warning

Heavy downpours during the early evening hours in the Central Pacific

July 06, 2020
07.00 p.m.

Discussion: Local factors such as daytime temperatures, as well as the entrance of humidity from the Pacific, generated during this afternoon intense rainy activity in sectors of the Pacific, especially towards the central and southern parts, with accumulations exceeding 100 mm towards Ladies, Parrita and surroundings.

Forecast: Moderate to heavy downpours will continue in the first hours of the night in the coastal part of the Central Pacific, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated, with a tendency to gradually decrease in the second part of the night period. In the rest of the country, significant rainfall is not expected.

Warning: special attention in coastal sectors of the Central Pacific due to heavy rains in the last hour can cause flash floods.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the Website: www.imn.ac.cr
