Weather Warning

Rainfall extends into the early hours of the night

June 06, 2020
04.50 p.m.

Discussion: The warm morning temperatures and the entrance of humidity from the maritime sectors have caused this afternoon cloudy developments and heavy showers with a thunderstorm in the Pacific with amounts of up to 58 mm in the southern part, the Central Valley with maximum accumulated between 40-50 mm and to a lesser extent in the North Zone with maximums of 25 mm.

Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon, the most intense rainy activity will occur in the North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean and will continue during the first hours of the night, estimates are between 25-50 mm. On the other hand, in the Pacific and Central Valley, light to moderate rains are expected with isolated thunderstorms, and will also last towards the first part of the night period, amounts between 10-30 mm. There is a high probability of fog banks in the Metropolitan Area and mountainous sectors at night.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone, North Pacific, mountains of the Central and South Pacific, since high levels of soil saturation are maintained.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas with vulnerability to floods, even more so in sectors with recent rainy activity.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
