Weather Warning

Strong rainy and electric activity on this day

October 01, 2020
10.55 a.m.

Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains very active, positioned over the country; which, added to local factors such as morning warming and the entry of sea breezes, will favor rain and storm scenarios on this day; the strongest during the afternoon and in the first part of the night period. At this time rains are recorded in the South Pacific, particularly in the Osa Peninsula with accumulated maximums in the last hour of 50 mm.

Forecast: This afternoon rains of variable intensity and heavy downpours with electrical storms are expected in the Pacific, Central Valley and North Zone regions, amounts between 30-60 mm are estimated, more accumulated are possible in a specific way. In addition, isolated rains with storms are expected in the mountains of the Caribbean, amounts estimated between 20-40 mm.

During the first hours of the night the rains will continue, especially in coastal areas of the Pacific, amounts between 25-50 mm.

Warning: Special attention due to the high percentage of soil saturation in the Central and South Pacific, Nicoya Peninsula and North Zone.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
