Weather warning

Lluvias en el país este lunes

April 27, 2020
10.20 am

Diagnosis: The increase in trade winds has allowed the entry of moisture from the Caribbean Sea to national territory this morning, this coupled with unstable conditions in the atmosphere, causes rain and downpours in the Caribbean from dawn, amounts between 5mm are recorded up to 40 mm in the last 6 hours. Furthermore, this situation keeps the Central Valley cloudy with intermittent drizzles.

On the other hand, the Intertropical Convergence Zone is close to the Costa Rican Pacific, causing strong downpours in the maritime zone off the Osa peninsula, generating rains in the south of the country this morning.

Forecast: It is anticipated that cloud cover will continue in the country and that moderate to heavy rain activity with a thunderstorm will persist throughout the morning and part of the afternoon in Limón, accumulating 25-60mm in 6 hours, and it is expected that the It is also projected towards the North Zone and Central Valley with rains of variable intensity, for the North Zone the accumulated will be lower with amounts between 10-30 mm, in the case of the Central Valley rains between 5-15 mm are expected. In the South Pacific there will be downpours with amounts between 5-40 mm in periods of 6 hours.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation, especially in the Caribbean and Northern Zone regions.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
