Weather Warning

Sahara Dust Layer in Costa Rica this week

June 23, 2020
12 m.

Diagnosis: A large mass of Sahara Dust Layer is found in the Caribbean Sea this week, arriving in Central America this Tuesday. This situation is usual in the region during the months of June to August, however, this one in particular has a high concentration of it.

Forecast: The presence of dust begins to be perceived from this Tuesday and will increase in the course of the week, with the highest concentration expected on Friday; which could generate reduced visibility and more isolated rainfall in the east and north of the country.

The IMN will be monitoring this phenomenon and updating this information daily

Warning: We recommend caution to the population with respiratory problems and / or allergies.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB page: www.imn.ac.cr
