Empuje frío #6 se desplaza al Atlántico pero todavía continúa su influencia sobre el país este lunes

23 de diciembre de 2024
10:00 a.m.

Diagnosis: Cold surge #6 is located this Monday in the Atlantic Ocean, but still maintains a weak influence in the Caribbean Sea and therefore in Costa Rica this day. Since early morning, weak rains with amounts between 15 mm and 30 mm have been recorded, mainly in the province of Cartago and the North Caribbean mountains; part of these rains have occasionally fallen in the surroundings of the GAM.

Forecast. For this afternoon and in general, the national territory is expected to be partly to fully cloudy with occasional showers, specifically:

  • Caribbean and Northern Zone: Mostly cloudy skies with occasional clear skies during this period. Scattered and occasional showers near the mountains, with estimated accumulations between 10 mm and 20 mm with possible higher amounts located near the mountains.
  • Central Valley and Guanacaste: Partly to fully cloudy with occasional wind gusts between 35 km/h and 45 km/h in the GAM and in the Cordillera de Guanacaste up to 80 km/h. Weak showers and occasional drizzle in the mountains.
  • Central and South Pacific: Partly cloudy. Occasional showers possible around Golfo Dulce in the South Pacific.

Cold surge #6 will have effects over the country until today; however, unstable conditions will remain in the Caribbean and Northern Zone throughout the week.

Warning: Special attention in the cantons of Guatuso, San Carlos, Siquirres and Pococí show saturation levels above 90%.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
Prevention due to wind gusts and possible damage to roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes).

  • Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and north of the Central Pacific.
  • Avoid fires of all kinds, as they can get out of control.
