Tropical Wave #31 to cross Costa Rica this Friday

Diagnosis: Tropical wave #31 is over Panama this Thursday and will transit early Friday morning through Costa Rica, increasing atmospheric instability over the country and therefore, forecasts will be reinforced this Friday.

Forecast: For this Thursday, local weather conditions will generate isolated showers with moderate to heavy thunderstorms in the Pacific regions, Central Valley and mountains of the Northern Zone and the Caribbean; at night, rains will extend mainly in the Pacific coast, plus high possibility of fog banks in the GAM. Amounts are estimated in the Central Valley between 10 mm and 30 mm; while, in the Pacific regions, accumulated amounts between 40 mm and 80 mm are expected.

Warning: Soils remain with a high saturation level in the Nicoya Peninsula, South Pacific and west of the Central Valley, where rains have been recurrent in recent days. Also, the expected rains in urban areas may cause congestion in the sewage system and flash floods.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

- Caution for sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
- Prevention before thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
